What We Think

Fun Factor:

Durability:

(what this means)

The Good: Durable, easy way for kids to experience photography

The Bad: May seem bulky in little hands

In a Nutshell: This Fisher-Price camera really is Kid Tough.
At a Glance

Ages: 3 and up
Requires: Four AAA batteries
Easy to Start Taking Pictures
An adult will need to use a screwdriver to install the four AAA batteries before kids get their hands on this camera. With a textured button on the front that releases the shutter and large buttons on the back that let little hands turn the camera on and off, browse through pictures and delete images, using this camera is so easy it doesn't need to come with instructions.

The fun, brightly colored body helps distinguish this camera from boring adult models, making it an instant favorite.

Kid-Friendly Technology
Kids can pick between using the live view on a 1.5-inch color LCD preview screen or looking through the two-eye viewer when taking pictures. The preview screen also lets kids look at pictures the moment after they take them. With a built-in flash that automatically illuminates darkened scenes, and a shutter noise that makes it easy to know when a picture has been taken, kids are sure to be delighted by their images.

The 64 MB built-in memory stores up to 500 pictures and eliminates the need for handling fragile and expensive memory cards. Two image resolution settings, 0.3 and 1.3 interpolated mega pixels, let kids take plenty of pictures and make 4 x 6-inch prints.

Fun, Durable Way to Encourage Creativity
With its big rubberized grips and sturdy construction, we found this camera lived up to its incredibly durable reputation. Able to easily withstand being dropped again and again and waterproof for 30 minutes in up to three feet of water, this camera can handle the rough reality of active play.

The heavy-duty construction that makes this camera so durable can also make it seem somewhat bulky for little hands, but this won't prevent kids from wanting to take it on all their adventures.

Older children and adults may be disappointed by the image quality, but higher resolutions would allow less pictures to be stored and decrease the amount of fun children have with this camera. Kids quickly find that there's plenty of resolution for exercising creative urges and documenting the wonders of everyday life.

The camera comes with a USB cable so pictures can be downloaded quickly and easily for editing and viewing. It is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Apple Mac OSX, Apple Mac OS9 and requires a USB port 1.1 or higher for computer connectivity.

What's in the Box

5 out of 5 stars Great purchase!!!   December 25, 2007

With a working flash, a double view finder, a larger (than the older version) display, easy to work controls to scroll, delete and turn on and off, it's approx. 60 picture internal memory, the durability and attractive look for a toddler; there's only one more thing that you could ask for and that's a bit better picture quality. The pros FAR outweigh the con. To me, it was just a bit pricey, but I think we have gotten what our money paid for! My 3 1/2 year old son LOVES this, and out of everything it has already become his favorite gift, the strap never leaving his wrist! He LOVES seeing his pictures, and taking pictures of everything, including little piggy-toes, the wall, or the dog's tail! LOL.

This is a big hit in our home.... Though where I bought my new version of this item, it was $[...], so shop around for a good price. :)

This turned out to be one of the best toy purchases I've made. My two year old son doesn't have a lot of interest in "toys"; instead he prefers the real (and often breakable) thing. Here we have the best of both worlds: a working digital camera that's stood up to the best my son can do. It's the most fun when there are two kids: they can run around taking pictures of each other going "Say cheese!" It's fun to look at the pictures and send them to the grandparents.

It almost goes without saying the picture quality is poor, however if you read the manual you can increase the quality pretty easily. Copying pictures off the camera is easy: just plug a USB cable into the camera and your computer (no extra software needed). Battery life has also proven to be good. I've had it about four months and only changed batteries once.

The only minor complaint I have: the button to take pictures is on the front which is a little awkward for small hands.

On our recent trip to Disney World, while we were waiting for the shuttle boat to the Magic Kingdom, my 4-year dropped his camera on the dock and it bounced into the lake. He was upset but we could really do nothing as we watched this camera float under the dock and disappear. 7 hours later we returned from the park, I spotted it floating about 100 yards down the shoreline. I convinced an employee to use a rental boat to fish it out of the water...I dried it, and tried it an hour later, it worked perfectly!!

The camera takes reasonable pictures for a 4 year old, and he has a great time taking pictures with it. For the price I think you get a very solid product that delivers!

As you can see by the title, this product is for kids. I gave it as a present to my grandchild. He loved it. Children are always wanting to see the picture that you take. He could take his own picture and the view it on his own camera. It is an exceptional product for children. It is make of plastic and can be mishandled by children, which is a plus considering their care and handling of items. It has software included that can be hooked to a computer and printed. This particular camera also has a memory card, so that additional picture can be taken.

5 out of 5 stars The Perfect Camera for a Young One   December 19, 2008

Let's be direct about this camera - it's not going to take great pictures. I honestly don't know why there's even a USB on this thing, not one picture on this that my son has taken would be worth printing. That said, taking pictures is somewhat secondary, as this is more of a toy and not a camera. Please pay attention to the age. This is meant for a three year old, it is not for would-be photographers. My son runs around the house taking pictures of lamps, floors, feet, half faces, toys, and whatever else he is pointing it at. It is very durable. He's already dropped it dozens of times and it keeps going fine. It's extremely easy for a three year-old to use. The buttons are large, and the delay on the power button is helpful. It also auto shuts off if not used for a bit. A word of caution though, rechargeable batteries are useless with this camera. It will chug through them in under five minutes. Overall, this is a fun camera that gives kids the thrill of using a real camera but with the safety of a child's toy. This thing can take some abuse!
